Bydgoszcz is the capital of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian province in central Poland. Since 1346 when Polish king Casimir the Great granted Bydgoszcz municipal rights, the city continues to develop as industrial, commercial, cultural, sports and educational center.
The city is located on the junction of two rivers – Brda and Vistula, and a historic Bydgoszcz Canal. One of the most special places in Bydgoszcz is Mill Island, with enchanting wharves, cascades and weirs rustling water. At the banks of a water canal are sited charming cafes and restaurants. Due to its unique location, this area has been nicknamed Little Venice.
Bydgoszcz is a city of art and music. Artistic impressions are provided by the Leon Wyczółkowski Art Museum, offering exhibitions of Wyczółkowski’s paintings set in the reconstructions of his home and studio, collections of Polish contemporary art, historical exhibitions. Music enthusiasts will be delighted by classical music concerts and opera performances offered by the Pomeranian Philharmonic and Opera Nova. Music lovers will certainly find something of interest in jazz clubs and pubs.
